IN LOS ANGELES:
As of 2006, there are an estimated 543,835 privately-held, 50% or more women-owned
firms in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, accounting for 40.1% of all privately-held
firms in the metropolitan area. Privately held, 50% or more women-owned firms
in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana metropolitan area generate nearly $125
billion in annual revenues and employ more than 692,000 people.
IN CALIFORNIA:
As of 2006, there are an estimated 1.4 million privately-held, 50% or more women-owned
firms in California, accounting for almost half (41.9%)
of all privately-held firms in the state. Privately held, 50% or more women-owned
firms in California generate more than $297 billion in sales and employ 1.8
million people. Among the 50 states and Washington, DC, California ranks 1st
in the number of privately held, majority (51% or more) women-owned firms in
2006, 1st in employment, and 1st in sales.
IN THE UNITED STATES:
As of 2006, there are an estimated 10.4 million privately-held, 50% or more women-owned firms in the U.S., accounting for 40.2% of all businesses in the country. Privately held, 50% or more women-owned firms in the U.S. generate $1.9 trillion in annual sales and employ 12.8 million people nationwide. Between 1997-2006, the growth in the number of 51% or more women-owned firms was nearly twice the rate of all firms (42.3% vs. 23.8%). Employment among 51% or more women-owned firms grew 0.4% and annual sales revenues increased 4.4%.
