NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS-LOS ANGELES (NAWBO-LA) SUPPORTS ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE IN GOVERNOR’S BUDGET COMPROMISE
Employer/Employee Schedule Flexibility Key to NAWBO-LA’s Decision

The National Association of Women Business Owners-Los Angeles Chapter (NAWBO-LA) today announced its support of the economic stimulus package in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s state budget compromise proposal.

The economic stimulus package is designed to stem job losses, facilitate creation of new jobs and improve tax revenues. An important element involves flexibility in overtime laws to enable employers and employees to agree on mutually acceptable flexible work schedules. This includes allowing employees to voluntarily work four 10-hour shifts without requiring overtime, with all hours worked above 10 hours per day or 40 hours per workweek paying time and a half.

“Women-owned businesses in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan region, which employ more than 692,000 people and generate nearly $125 billion in annual revenues, share the overall business community’s concern about the importance of creating business- and employee-friendly solutions in our current economic conditions,” said Jane Skeeter, NAWBO-LA president and CEO of UltraGlas, Inc.

She added, “As the leading organization in Southern California representing women-owned businesses of all sizes and in all industries, we think it is critical that NAWBO-LA be actively engaged in budget discussions to help create a long-term resolution to the challenges facing the state and to support both businesses and their employees.”
