Patty DeDominic and PDQCareers.com has announced an historic, $1 million challenge grant to the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Los Angeles Chapter, and its educational non-profit, the Enterprise Institute of NAWBO-LA. It is the largest gift from a single business owner ever received by the local chapter or the national organization, which has more than 80 chapters nationwide.

DeDominic, founder & CEO, of PDQ Careers Group of Companies, heads one of Los Angeles’ largest privately held staffing services, which she founded in 1979. She has been active in NAWBO for 25 years, having served as the national president, chapter president, and as NAWBO-LA president emeritus. As national president for NAWBO in 1995, she helped lead delegations of women business owners to the White House Conference on Small Business and to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China.

DeDominic said she hopes her gift will set an example and serve as an impetus for other women to step up to support NAWBO, thus creating a legacy for the next generation of entrepreneurs. The gift is a matching grant with the chapter having ten years to raise an identical amount from individual donors, in effect, doubling the contribution to the chapter.

“NAWBO has, for decades, been close to my heart and helped me in my own business success,” DeDominic said. “There are many alternatives when it comes to giving, but I wanted to ensure that NAWBO’s valuable work would continue and that other entrepreneurs would be similarly inspired to contribute.”

This isn’t the first time DeDominic has successfully provided a matching grant to spur contributions. She previously gave a $100,000 matching gift to help launch the Foundation for SCORE, a non-profit that provides business education. That gift resulted in contributions from more than 900 individuals, which exceeded many times over DeDominic’s original $100,000 grant.

DeDominic will be honored during the 20th Annual NAWBO-LA Leadership & Legacy Awards Luncheon on March 17th as the recipient of the Legacy/Philanthropist of the Year Award. The award is given to an individual who has had a significant impact on the well being of her community by providing leadership in raising funds and charitable donations for local organizations or individuals in need.

She has also been active in numerous other organizations, serving as past chair of the board of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, a past Commissioner of the Americas for the World Association of Women Chiefs and an advisor to the Women’s Leadership Board at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She also helped create the Foundation for SCORE, which utilizes the expertise of volunteer business leaders to provide business counseling to small business owners.

The United States Congress, state governors, trade associations and her peers have honored DeDominic and her firm for over twenty years. She has been recognized for her work as a small-business advocate, as a community leader and as one of “America's Finest Employers.”
