NAWBO-LA AFFIRMS PASSAGE OF STATE BUDGET NECESSARY AND TIMELY

LOS ANGELES – The National Association of Women Business Owners, Los Angeles Chapter (NAWBO-LA) affirmed the passage of a state budget compromise as a necessary and long overdue action by the State.  With the continual squeeze of the economic crisis, the passage finally will give women business owners the ability to breathe a sigh of relief.

NAWBO-LA extends gratitude to Governor Schwarzenneger and the legislative leaders for their efforts over the past several months culminating in the immediate resolution of several critically time sensitive issues.

"The passage of this budget was necessary to make sure California did not fall deeper into decline," said Jane Skeeter, President of NAWBO-LA and CEO of UltraGlas, Inc., "I am encouraged by the stimulus efforts in the budget and am hopeful it will do the job to jump start the economy."

NAWBO-LA believes that the budget is a necessary balance of reduced spending, increased revenue generation, economic stimulus and better government efficiency.  In order to close the State's $42 billion deficit, the budget passed by the Legislature today aims to offset increased taxes with a strong stimulus initiative including "Incentives for California-based Companies Creating Jobs for Californians" – a measure which through numerous tax incentives – including a "new hire" tax credit – aims to draw companies to not only do business in California, but to base and expand operations in the State and develop the local workforce.

Several key issues which will go to ballot will include spending limits reform, creation of a real rainy day fund and a constitutional amendment allowing open primaries for legislative, congressional and gubenatorial elections.  Serving as an advocate on the behalf of all women business owners of the Greater Los Angeles area, NAWBO-LA will continually evaluate how the impending ballot initiatives set forth through the passage of the budget will impact the women's business community.
