NAWBO-LA HONORS WOMEN LEADERS IN BUSINESS AND PHILANTHROPY
More Than 1,200 Expected to Attend Awards Luncheon March 18 at the Beverly Hilton

(LOS ANGELES) Nine Los Angeles County women, distinguished leaders in diverse fields from movie production to architecture to public advocacy, will be honored Friday, March 18 at the 19th Annual Leadership and Legacy Awards Luncheon, jointly presented by the National Association of Women Business Owners, Los Angeles Chapter (NAWBO-LA) and the Enterprise Institute of NAWBO-LA.

“Each year, NAWBO-LA honors women who have not only distinguished themselves in business but have also helped change the business culture and the community, as breakthrough role models and as committed philanthropists,” said Helen Han, Executive Director of NAWBO-LA. “By honoring and giving tribute to top achievers among women entrepreneurs and community leaders who have established a legacy of entrepreneurial excellence and contributed significantly to the community, NAWBO-LA helps women business owners expand their circles of success and inspire the next generation of women.”

The Leadership and Legacy Awards Luncheon is NAWBO-LA’s signature annual event and fundraiser. More than 1,200 attend, including women business owners throughout Southern California, the corporate community, elected officials and distinguished business leaders. This year’s Mistress of Ceremony is Sylvia Lopez, KCAL 9 News at Nine co-anchor and seven-time Emmy award winner.

Those receiving awards include Diane Dixon, a Senior Vice President with the Avery Dennison Corporation, whose work with United Way’s, “Saving for the American Dream,” helped increase visibility and support for the program among women in Southern California.

Also being honored are Mary Anderson, whose company, Associated Health Professionals, Inc., is one of the oldest and largest medical staffing firms in Southern California, and Patricia Means, publisher of Turning Point, a national magazine which focuses on African American entrepreneurs.

Cynthia Corella and Chérie Shelton, owners of La Bella, a clothing boutique in Long Beach, are also being recognized as “Rising Stars.”

The awards also include four inductees into the NAWBO-LA Hall of Fame, which honors those who have made a notable business contribution or lifetime achievement.

This year’s honorees include Loreen Arbus, who heads her own television production company and was the first woman to have ever headed two cable television networks, and Gabrielle Bullock, an architect currently overseeing building of the $400 million UCLA Westwood Replacement Hospital. Also being named are Dr. Jane Pisano, President and Director, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, whose long history of public activism includes serving as president of the Los Angeles 2000 Committee, and Andrea Schaffer, General Manager, Strategic Financial Group, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, who is one of only four Northwestern Mutual women general managers nationwide. (A complete list of honorees and their award categories is attached.)

Corporate sponsors include Union Bank of California, Avery Dennison Corporation, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Southern California Edison, Citibank, Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual, Northrop Grumman Corporation and Raytheon.

Tickets for the luncheon start at $150 for individuals. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday March 18, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, 9876 Wilshire Blvd., in Beverly Hills. To register or obtain more information, please go to http://www.nawbola.org.
