Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire
President, Berkhemer Clayton, Inc.
Immediate Past Statewide California President of the National Association of
Women Business Owners (2002-2004), and Past President of the Los Angeles Chapter
of NAWBO-LA (2000-2001) Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire has long been a champion of
women business-owners. A veteran entrepreneur for more than 30 years, she has
launched two successful companies, and even published a monthly newsletter back
in 1976 for women business-owners called ”Women’s Information Network.”
Her current firm in its 12th year is Berkhemer Clayton, Inc, a retained executive
search firm headquartered in downtown Los Angeles, specializing in senior level
executive positions in corporate communications, finance & accounting and
general management. Corporate clients include Countrywide, Hilton, DirecTV,
Disney, Toyota, Edison, Kaiser Permanente, Blue Cross of CA, UCLA, University
of Southern California, Chiron Pharmaceuticals, Baxter BioScience, Metropolitan
Water District of Southern California, PG&E, and more.
Betsy met her business partner Fred Clayton when they both served on the board
of March of Dimes Southern California. Their firm Berkhemer Clayton is committed
to diversity and inclusion in every search, and both partners continue to be
active in non-profit community organizations. She currently serves on the boards
of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Southern California Leadership Network
(SCLN) and the California statewide board of NAWBO. She previously served 12
years on the advisory board of the UCLA Medical Center. Her memberships include
Town Hall of Los Angeles, Organization of Women Executives, Hispanic Corporate
Council, UCLA Alumni Association, Women’s Foundation of California, Public
Relations Society of America (PRSA) and International Association of Business
Communicators (IABC.)
For the previous 20 years, Betsy had launched and built one of the largest
public relations agencies in Los Angeles called Berkhemer & Kline, with
then-partner Richard Kline, which was acquired by Golin/Harris Communications.
Her firm handled national public relations for Nintendo, Toshiba, Southwest
Airlines, Price Waterhouse, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream, Mrs. Fields Cookies and
Tournament of Roses year-round.
Betsy has received the SBA Small Business Achievement Award in 2001; NAWBO-LA
Millennium Hall of Fame in 2001; the Public Relations Society of America/Los
Angeles Joseph Roos Award for Public Service; the March of Dimes Southern California
Volunteer of the Year award, and been nominated for the Los Angeles Business
Journal’s “Women Who Make a Difference” Awards.
A graduate of UCLA, Betsy began her career as a journalist with Southern California
newspapers and television news. She worked in New York and Chicago for Disney
Studios and NBC, before launching her original public relations agency in Los
Angeles. She is married to Cris Credaire, and both are licensed private pilots.
