Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire
President, Berkhemer Clayton, Inc.

Immediate Past Statewide California President of the National Association of Women Business Owners (2002-2004), and Past President of the Los Angeles Chapter of NAWBO-LA (2000-2001) Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire has long been a champion of women business-owners. A veteran entrepreneur for more than 30 years, she has launched two successful companies, and even published a monthly newsletter back in 1976 for women business-owners called ”Women’s Information Network.”

Her current firm in its 12th year is Berkhemer Clayton, Inc, a retained executive search firm headquartered in downtown Los Angeles, specializing in senior level executive positions in corporate communications, finance & accounting and general management. Corporate clients include Countrywide, Hilton, DirecTV, Disney, Toyota, Edison, Kaiser Permanente, Blue Cross of CA, UCLA, University of Southern California, Chiron Pharmaceuticals, Baxter BioScience, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, PG&E, and more.

Betsy met her business partner Fred Clayton when they both served on the board of March of Dimes Southern California. Their firm Berkhemer Clayton is committed to diversity and inclusion in every search, and both partners continue to be active in non-profit community organizations. She currently serves on the boards of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Southern California Leadership Network (SCLN) and the California statewide board of NAWBO. She previously served 12 years on the advisory board of the UCLA Medical Center. Her memberships include Town Hall of Los Angeles, Organization of Women Executives, Hispanic Corporate Council, UCLA Alumni Association, Women’s Foundation of California, Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and International Association of Business Communicators (IABC.)

For the previous 20 years, Betsy had launched and built one of the largest public relations agencies in Los Angeles called Berkhemer & Kline, with then-partner Richard Kline, which was acquired by Golin/Harris Communications. Her firm handled national public relations for Nintendo, Toshiba, Southwest Airlines, Price Waterhouse, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream, Mrs. Fields Cookies and Tournament of Roses year-round.

Betsy has received the SBA Small Business Achievement Award in 2001; NAWBO-LA Millennium Hall of Fame in 2001; the Public Relations Society of America/Los Angeles Joseph Roos Award for Public Service; the March of Dimes Southern California Volunteer of the Year award, and been nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal’s “Women Who Make a Difference” Awards.

A graduate of UCLA, Betsy began her career as a journalist with Southern California newspapers and television news. She worked in New York and Chicago for Disney Studios and NBC, before launching her original public relations agency in Los Angeles. She is married to Cris Credaire, and both are licensed private pilots.
